She did not push, she just arrived, with an air of authority, despite her diminutive size, and when her fly mask came off, my heart clenched, she was so like the videos of the older Moniet el Nefous: small, dry, with a beautiful face.
With Gold was a gelding, Ki-Hara Ghaisan, also grey, but also a little chestnut mare, Thareek, who made it clear that if anyone was going to get attention in the field, it should be her. Gold’s full brother Akasha Rahas and her only foal to date, Akasha Flowing Free, are both accomplished endurance horses - her son was the winner of the 2019 SAIC 160km ride - and were both exported to the UAE, so talent runs in her family.
In the next field, I met a lovely grey Anglo-Arab broodmare, Akasha Gold, a daughter of Vlinkfontein Jay Hill, whose great-grandparents include the Old English stallion Quantock II, the CMK stallion Rabiyas, the two Crabbet mares Indian Glory and Nazrina, and the Old Egyptian Mimrahiyah mare Barakah there is also a line to Mirage through Vlinkfontein General Dufour, a son of the imported stallion Gaysar out of the Old Egyptian mare Mamdouha.
