Like I usually do on the 23rd of July of every year to celebrate them, I was on a marathon of listening to One Direction’s best songs and watching their old live performances, and it prompted me to write this post for One Direction’s 11th anniversary. Even after all these years, I still remember the lyrics to almost all their songs and still love the band. Today is One Direction’s 11th anniversary, and for today only, I’m gonna bring out my inner fangirl! I have been one of their biggest fans since the group was formed and have continued being one after One Direction went on hiatus in 2015.
Even after coming in third in the competition, this group which included, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, and Zayn Malik, went on to break records, win awards, and sell out stadium tours around the world, becoming one of the most successful boy bands of all time.

On 23rd July 2010, Simon Cowell and his fellow X Factor judges decided to put together 5 strangers who had been rejected as solo contestants, and formed the group, One Direction. They traversed a multitude of musical territories, from the bubblegum of “Live While We’re Young” and “Best Song Ever” (a modern-day “Baba O’Riley”) and the midtempo folk balladry of “Little Things” to the 1980s piano rock of “Steal My Girl” and the serotonin-releasing, pitch-perfect harmonies of, well, their entire discography. In their short five-year career, One Direction became the biggest act on the planet all while challenging traditional boy-band tropes. One Direction became total global superstars with ubiquitous pop-rock hits-from the playful power pop of 2011’s “What Makes You Beautiful”, the group’s first single, to the rootsy “History” in 2015, the group’s last. And yet, no one could’ve predicted what would follow.
Legend has it Simon Cowell only took 10 minutes to decide to bring then-teenaged contestants Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne together to form a boy band on The X Factor in July 2010.
